After a front, the priority is making the roof safe and watertight, then documenting the damage properly before anything is covered. Powerdrive attends Trigg and the surrounding suburbs, photographs what the storm did and repairs the cause rather than the stain.
Storm Damage Roof Repair in Trigg: the short version
Impact damage spreads further than the hole you can see, which is why the visible break is rarely the whole job. Background on our service page.
Why Trigg roofs behave the way they do
There is a nice irony in Trigg: it is named after Henry Trigg, a master builder who recognised the value of the limestone ridge here and set up the original lime-burning business on it. The suburb is, quite literally, built on and out of the material he quarried and that limestone is the key to inspecting it. The ground is two dune systems stacked on each other. On top is young white Quindalup sand, only a few thousand years old and still mobile. Underneath is the 100,000-year-old Spearwood system, limestone and yellow sand, which surfaces in places. For footings that means genuinely variable support: one part of a block can be founded on solid limestone shelf. Every time. Another on loose sand and that difference is what drives differential footing movement over the decades. It is also parabolic dune country, so sites here have real slope, a cliffed foredune and sand that moves, retaining walls, down-slope drainage and site stability all come into play. The housing spans the full range. Trigg developed late, from the late 1940s, when the old Sandringham Estate blocks were resurveyed. The original stock is post-war holiday shacks and workers' cottages, now sitting alongside large modern coastal rebuilds and Mediterranean-style homes along the front. As everywhere on this coast, which era you are buying determines the whole inspection: a 1950s shack and a 2019 concrete-and-glass rebuild share nothing but the sea air. And that sea air is relentless. Trigg sits on an exposed, cliffed foredune with no protecting dune in front of it, among the most weather-beaten frontages on the coast. Maximum salt on anything metal, wind-driven rain on the western walls and in the older tiled roofs, delignification to check for in the roof space. What that means for storm damage roof repair in Trigg
Roofs within sight of the water take the salt and the wind together. By the time a front arrives the fixings have often been compromised for years, which shortens how much force it takes to lift a tile.
Waterlogged ground and mature trees together mean root plates lift in sustained wind, which is why the serious limb events in these streets tend to follow days of rain rather than a single gust.
On free draining ground the storm damage is usually straightforwardly the roof rather than a combination of roof and ground water, which makes both the repair and the claim simpler.
Trigg roofs: symptom and fix
| What you are seeing | What it usually means | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Tiles gone from one elevation only | Wind loading on the exposed side | Replace and check neighbours |
| Water inside for the first time | New entry point created by the event | Trace, make safe, repair |
| Gradual leak worsening over years | Wear, generally excluded from cover | Repair, do not lodge |
| Sheeting lifted at the fixings | Wind uplift exceeded the fixing | Refix to correct specification |
Guide only. Every roof differs, which is why we look before quoting.

Roof Repairs in Trigg
Learn moreTrigg is about as exposed as Perth's coast gets — right on the surf, with salt and wind that go to work on the metal fast. So repairs here almost always begin with corrosion: a valley eaten thin, a flashing torn loose in a gale, fixings rusted enough to let a ridge rattle. We find where the water's really getting in, replace with genuine coastal-grade material, and fasten it hard against a wind that comes straight off the breakers.

Roof Restoration in Trigg
Learn moreRestoring a Trigg roof is a straight fight with the ocean. We clean off the caked salt and growth, treat the corrosion the surf-front air has already started, put the pointing right, and coat in a system genuinely rated for extreme coastal exposure. There's no cutting corners this close to the water — anything less than a proper marine spec is stripped bare by the onshore wind within a season or two.

Roof Replacement in Trigg
Learn moreA Trigg re-roof has to be over-built for the surf front — top marine-grade sheet, the best corrosion-resistant fixings, and flashings shaped to throw a hard, wind-driven rain clear. We renew the framing and sarking while it's open and size the hold-down to one of the fiercest wind exposures we work in. Out here a roof that's merely adequate is a roof you'll be replacing far too soon.

Roof Inspection in Trigg
Learn moreOn the Trigg surf front even a newish roof can be well down the road to corrosion, so an inspection before you buy is essential rather than optional. We get onto the roof and into the cavity and scrutinise the metal the ocean attacks hardest — valleys, flashings, fixings — with the tiles and framing, and give you a photographed report, because out here the difference between a sound roof and a re-roof is not something to guess at.

Roof Carpentry in Trigg
Learn moreThe surf air corrodes a Trigg roof's metal quietly, and a valley that's weeping onto a batten can rot the timber beneath long before anyone spots a stain. We cut back past the damage to solid wood, splice or replace to match, and renew the corroded metal above, because on a coast this severe the rot and the corrosion are inseparable — fix only the timber and you're back within a couple of years.

Structural Defect Repairs in Trigg
Learn moreStructural faults on a Trigg roof are usually corrosion-driven — salt has eaten a connection until it's lost its hold, or framing has degraded where surf-front water crept in. When an inspection names one, we look hard at what the ocean's actually done before we quote a fix, then rectify and certify it as registered builders, engaging an engineer where the extent warrants, so the structural side of a coastal sale is genuinely closed.

- A limb or debris on the roof
- Water appearing inside where it never has before
- Guttering pulled loose or full of roof material
Local conditions in Trigg
Two-layer geology: mobile Quindalup sand over Spearwood limestone. Footings can hit limestone shelf or sit on sand depending on depth/location, variable support and dune sites move.
Built on parabolic dune terrain, genuine slope, cliffed foredune, sand mobility. Retaining, drainage, site stability.
1940s-50s shacks/workers' cottages through to large modern coastal rebuilds. Very mixed stock.
We cover the whole of the City of Stirling. That takes in Spearwood and the streets around Trigg. Short drives keep storm damage roof repair affordable on smaller jobs and most of ours are smaller jobs.
Materials and specification
Where the event damaged guttering as well as roofing, replacing to Lysaght profiles and reviewing downpipe capacity at the same time is worth doing. Storm rainfall intensity is exactly the condition that exposes an undersized system.
A little about Trigg
After Henry Trigg, master builder and Superintendent of Public Works (Swan River Colony, 1838); he ran the original Limekilns quarrying/lime-burning business Two dune systems, young white Quindalup sand (last 6,000 yrs) Overlying 100,000-yr-old Spearwood limestone/yellow sand; Spearwood surfaces in places; former limestone cliffs; cliffed foredune Trigg Bushland Reserve (Bush Forever 308) runs through the suburb; remnant coastal vegetation None of that decides what your roof needs. It does tell us what to expect before we get the ladder out in Trigg.

What the work involves
- Make watertight, then repair properly. A make safe holds until conditions allow. The actual repair happens on a dry roof in daylight, to a standard that lasts rather than one that survives the week
- Separate event damage from pre-existing wear. Assessors reject reports that blur the two. Documenting them separately is what gets the legitimate part of a claim approved
- Safety before roofing. Structural damage, loaded ceilings and water near wiring come first. There are conditions in which nobody should be on a roof at all and we will say so rather than take the risk
Common questions about storm damage roof repair in Trigg
Do you charge for attending after hours?
Emergency attendance is priced differently to a booked repair and we will tell you that before we come rather than afterwards.
What should I do before you arrive?
Stay out of any room with a sagging ceiling, because plasterboard holding water comes down without warning. If water is near lights or wiring, isolate that circuit. Then photograph everything before covering it.
Does covering the roof affect my claim?
No, provided the original damage is photographed first. Insurers expect you to prevent further loss and leaving a roof open to the weather can prejudice a claim rather than protect it.
How quickly can you attend?
Active damage gets priority. After a major front we triage by risk rather than call order and anyone promising immediate attendance during a widespread event is not being straight with you.
Do you work throughout Trigg?
Yes and the surrounding suburbs. Ring 0421 768 842 and tell us your street. If we are not the right people for the job we will say so rather than quoting anyway.
What to ask whoever quotes you
Ask what happens if the scope changes. On older Trigg roofs things become visible once work starts and that is normal. What is not normal is discovering the variation on the invoice. It should be photographed, priced and discussed before anybody acts on it.
