Read every review, not a selection

Any roofing company can publish four glowing quotes on a page. What tells you something is the full record: how many reviews, over how long and how the business responds when somebody is unhappy.

Why we do not print testimonials on this page

Selected quotes on a company website are unverifiable by definition. You cannot tell who wrote them, when, or whether anybody was left out. A Google profile carries the whole record, the dates, the reviewer names and the responses and it cannot be curated by us.

That is a slightly worse sales page and a considerably more useful one for somebody deciding who to let onto their roof. If the reviews do not persuade you, no amount of formatting on our own site should.

If we have worked on your roof

Adding a review genuinely helps the next person choosing a roofer, particularly if you mention which suburb you are in and what the work actually involved. Photographs help more than anything else. If something went wrong, we would rather you told us first so we can put it right.

How to read roofing reviews properly

Volume matters less than pattern. A run of five star ratings posted within the same fortnight is worth noticing and so is a business with a long trading history and no critical feedback at all, which is statistically unusual for any trade.

Look for reviews that describe the actual work rather than general praise. A review naming the suburb, the problem and what was done tells you something. One saying great job thanks tells you nothing, whoever wrote it.

Photographs in reviews are the most useful signal available, because they are difficult to fabricate at scale and they show the finish rather than describing it.

Read how the business answers criticism. Every trade gets something wrong eventually. What distinguishes them is whether the response engages with the complaint or attacks the reviewer.

What else to check besides reviews

Ask for the business name, the ABN and licence details, then verify them independently rather than accepting a card. Ask for current public liability cover, because work at height on your property without it exposes you rather than the contractor.

Ask whether the people doing the work are employees or subcontractors and whether the person quoting will be on site. That matters most when a warranty claim arises, since a workmanship warranty from a business that subcontracts everything and supervises nothing is a document rather than a protection.

Ask what happens if more damage is found once work starts. The honest answer is that it gets photographed, priced and discussed before anybody acts on it.

Powerdrive has traded in Perth since 1997 from a fixed address in Sinagra, with employed crews and written warranties. Put us through exactly the same checks you would apply to anybody else.

The warning signs worth taking seriously

Somebody arriving unannounced who noticed alarming damage from the street. That approach creates urgency and the damage may be real, exaggerated or invented. You have no way to tell and no obligation to decide on the spot.

A price quoted over the phone, from a photograph or from satellite imagery. Mortar condition, valley corrosion and batten integrity determine most of the work required and none of them can be assessed remotely.

A discount for cash. That usually means no tax invoice, which means no documented warranty, no proof of payment and no manufacturer product warranty, since those require accredited application and paperwork.

A large payment demanded before work begins. A modest deposit securing materials is normal. Progress payments tied to completed stages are the sensible structure and any decent contractor explains theirs without hesitation.

Leftover materials from a nearby job. Reputable businesses order what they need and do not carry surplus around suburbs looking for somewhere to use it.

Where our customers are

Reviews come from across the metropolitan area. The northern corridor through Joondalup, Currambine and Butler. The coastal strip from Scarborough and Trigg down through Cottesloe and Fremantle. The eastern suburbs around Midland, Guildford, Kalamunda and Forrestfield. The southern belt through Melville, Willetton, Rockingham and Baldivis.

Different suburbs bring different work. Salt corrosion near the water, leaf litter and limb strikes in the hills, reactive clay movement through the south east and post war concrete tile reaching the end of its mortar life almost everywhere in between.

Twenty eight years trading in one city produces a long record. Some of it is repeat customers, some is neighbours who watched a job happen next door and a fair amount is second opinions on quotes somebody else provided.

Awards, accreditation and the paperwork behind them

We are Dulux AcraTex accredited applicators. That is a registered network arrangement rather than a badge and its practical consequence is that the manufacturer product warranty becomes available on your roof. An identical coating applied by an unaccredited operator does not carry it.

Our own workmanship warranty runs ten years and arrives in writing. Those two documents cover different failures and you should finish a coating job holding both, filed somewhere retrievable rather than lost in a drawer.

Chemical delignification treatment is patented, the only process of its kind available in Australia and it carries a transferable warranty. Transferable matters, because it becomes an asset when the property changes hands and answers the question a building inspector will eventually ask.

Complaints and how we would rather handle them

Raise it with us directly and in writing and give us a genuine opportunity to put it right. The overwhelming majority of disputes in this trade resolve at that stage and never need to go anywhere else.

Keep your quote, invoices, warranties and photographs. That paperwork is the entire basis of any later claim. Consumer Protection in Western Australia handles building service complaints and there are formal pathways if something cannot be settled between us.

Dulux AcraTex accredited applicators

Powerdrive Roofing is an accredited applicator for the Dulux AcraTex roof restoration system, so your coating carries the manufacturer’s product warranty alongside our own 10-year workmanship warranty. How the Dulux AcraTex warranty works →
